Infinity Ward's Community Manager fourzerotwo announced that there will be new gametypes heading to the console.

Here is a Quote from his website:
"Thanks to everyone who helped play test the new playlists last weekend, as well as everyone else who volunteered to help! I received an overwhelming amount of messages, emails, and other friend invites over the past week from the community offering to help out! THANK YOU and I’m sorry we couldn’t include everyone, but the good news is the tests went great (helped us find a few bugs with the new settings) as well as come to final decisions."

The gametypes expected are:

Bare-bones Team Deathmatch

No more excuses. No more blaming Martyrdom or Juggernaut for your lack of skills and kills. Bare Bones Team Deathmatch eliminates the excuses and takes it back to basics with standard Team Deathmatch with no perks, no kill streak rewards. Just you, your skill, and your weapons.

Hardcore HQ

Hardcore HQ requires a lot more than just spamming the HQ position with nades and running in guns blazing. Hardcore HQ encourages more tactical gameplay and communication to win with increased damage, no HUD elements, and friendly fire on.

Multi-bomb Search and Destroy

Multi-bomb Search and Destroy starts every member of the attacking team with a bomb. So everyone has the opportunity to plant if they’re good enough.

Hardcore FFA

Even faster paced Free For Alls, where every bullet counts and playing smart is key for a solid k/d ratio. Standard Free for All rules, with Hardcore mode enabled for extra damage, no HUD, and no health re-gen.

Recently, Noah Heller (Senior producer) and Rich Farrelly (Creative lead) from Treyarch, sat down with the team over at play.tm to discuss Call of Duty: World at War.

In the interview they discuss why they went back to the WWII genre, how long they've been working on the game (since November 2006), their collaboration with Infinity Ward, the theatres of war and the multiplayer side of things. One big thing they mention is that in one of the missions, you will get to play a Marine voiced by none other than Keifer Sutherland (also known as Jack Bauer for you "24" fans out there). They also mention there will be more guest voice overs with other Marine and Russian characters.

Kotaku made a statement that a new Call of Duty game will be released in 2009 and it will be made by Infinity Ward. Their statement:

You wouldn't be surprised to learn that "an all-new Call of Duty" title will be released in 2009, would you? Good, because that's exactly what's going to happen, according to Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, who talked up the next Call of Duty in a post earnings release con call.

Kotick said that the publisher will "leapfrog" studios, which we'll assume to mean that, since Treyarch is hard at work on Call of Duty: World At War, that Call of Duty 4 developer Infinity Ward will be taking the reins on this one.

The Infinity Ward team has one unspecified project in the works for Activision, whom it just re-signed with, rumored to possibly have a sci-fi bent to it. Space marines? It's just crazy enough to work.

CVG had an interview with Treyarch, which confirmed a few things in CoD: WaW, including Vehicles and extras. Here is part of their article, that I found interesting:

COD4 sung online. It changed everything. So handily using the COD4 engine means everything you and I loved about playing online will be retained for World At War, including Perks, team modes and old-school set-ups. Noah was being coy about the Perks system for World At War, after all these are WWII weapons, but upgrades such as powerful shots, mid-mag reloads on the M1 Grand and new grenade classes (Molotov cocktails) will be on offer.

Interestingly, Treyarch are pushing the idea of a vehicle-based online mode. There will be specific maps and Perks created just for skirmishes involving tanks, jeeps and armoured cars. This is something of a gamble, especially considering the game's limited development time. It's debatable whether online vehicle combat will add anything to the series over being a niche side event.

The second campaign is set at the end of the European war as Russian forces pushed into Berlin. This looks to resemble the tightly contested street skirmishes of COD4. Expect something similar to the Middle-Eastern stages
of Modern Combat with a smattering of new weapons, including the return of the fire effect used in the Pacific campaign with the introduction of Molotov cocktails and combustable environments to make use of.

FourZeroTwo has made a new post regarding console playlists (game types). Here is his post:

Nothing ruins a game of Hardcore Search and Destroy or Hardcore Team Deathmatch faster than an excessive team killer being a douche. So, all this talk of new playlists we’ve been doing around the studio recently (with the help of my raw hatred of team killers) got me to thinking about some Hardcore playlists variations we could possibly introduce when we do the playlist update.

What do you guys think of having the option of playing your favorite Hardcore playlists standard (HC S&D, HC TDM) in addition to Hardcore (Friendly Fire Disabled). Essentailly, standard Hardcore rules with limited hud, increased weapon damage, etc. minus the dread of team killers?

I mention it, because I think it’d be a nice option to have once we introduce Hardcore HQ and give those who love Hardcore but hate team killers a haven for some honest hardcore gameplay. So what’s the verdict? Would you like the option to play Hardcore Standard and Hardcore (No Friendly Fire)?

Note the word, option. Meaning, you can still play the way it is now (with friend fire on) or have an additional option to play without friend fire. I’m not proposing change all of Hardcore. I’m saying give an option for Hardcore lite in addition to the normal hardcore playlists there already are.

"JD", a community manager for Treyarch, has confirmed that the Wii Version of Call of Duty, World at War (WaWii), will feature only 2 player offline coop, rather than the 4 player online coop found in the PS360 versions. In a prior interview with Joystiq, Treyarch told us this:

But, [the Wii Version] will be the exact [same] experience except for the changes that we need to make for the controls and everything else. (emphasis WiiHD's)

"And everything else" seems to encompass quite a bit. We warned you not to count on a full feature set for WaWii until you actually see it with your own eyes.

As for a reason why the Wii won't be getting 4 player online coop, JD claims that they opted for more impressive visuals, and in the process had to sacrifice the feature set. The specifically cite DX9 shader tech for the impact on online play.
